Optoma PK201 Pico Pocket Projector - Refurbished

The Optoma PK201 is overall a nice product. It seems well constructed and relatively easy to use. The image is pretty sharp for such a small unit, but I have to agree with other reviews that the LED light is dim and can only be used to full advantage in a darkened room. The built in speaker isn't really worth using, but will do in a pinch.

Also, Mac users will be frustrated with the included cables. There are three cables in the box and none of them work as a method of projection from a Mac. The USB cable is strictly to act as a download connection...you can download info to the projector memory for later use, but can't control the device with it. The other two cables are a mini VGA cable and a composite video cable. Both of which would require adaptors for use on any Apple device. Best way to use an iPad/iPod is to buy the Apple HDMI adaptor and an HDMI/mini HDMI cable. For a laptop, a mini displayport to VGA adaptor or a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor is probably the way to go. Older laptops won't have sound on the HDMI cable, but the built in speaker on the PK201 is much weaker than the laptop speakers anyway.

Overall, worth the price for a front pocket portable projector.

Optoma 2800 ANSI Lumens DLP Multimedia Projector - Refurbished

The Optoma ES526 is priced decently on eCOST.com for what you get, but only offers 800x600 resolution (SGA) and no HDMI input. With some shopping around, you can find an Optoma PRO250X with 1024 x 768 resolution (XGA), which is 1080i-capable, and has an HDMI cable input that will accept a laptop's output. The PRO250X is generally going for about $300, since it is a discontinued product, if you can afford the extra cash. Lamps for both cost about $140 at Acer Lamps' website, and last about 3000-4000 hrs, so if cash is a problem, remember that the cost of replacing the lamp is a big factor in a projector, depending on how much you use it.

Projectors

Multimedia projectors are electronic equipment that receive images or video data (whether from digital or analog sources) and project it through a screen using lenses and light. Today’s multimedia projectors can now adjust the image on the projection screen. This equipment has become popular for business uses such as meetings and conferences, public display, advertising and even in classrooms and at home theaters.

There are a variety of projectors that are made to suit the needs of a customer, through their light output that is measured in lumens. For example, projectors that have a light output up to 1500 lumens are suitable for small room conferences or classrooms. As the lumens increase, the more it becomes appropriate to larger projection screens, hence larger audience. 5100 lumens and up for example are best used on big expos and stage presentations.

Multimedia projectors have come a long way from the ancient times through pinhole cameras noted by Greek philosophers, to Leonardo da Vinci’s “magic lantern.” In the 18th and the 19th century, the early concept of projectors was used for creating illusions and entertainment. Eventually in the 20th century, the development of overhead projectors (and even the popular movie projectors) has led the way in the development of slide projectors. These projectors use analog sources such as negatives and films projected to a screen to be viewed. As technology progressed well into the 21st century, image or video sources have become digital, hence the development of multimedia projectors.

High speed processing and brilliant color technology combine to create only the best in multimedia projectors. PC Mall has a wide selection of multimedia projectors that are sure to bring ease to board meetings and office presentations. Reliable brands such as Infocus, Epson, Hitachi, Viewsonic and more produce bright images even under high ambient light environments with multimedia projectors that range from 1000 to 5100 lumens.
